I'm pleased to say that Futbol for Kids recently went on its first official trip to Honduras to deliver soccer balls, water filters and solar flashlights. During the trip we visited kids living in several difficult conditions. The trip involved visiting 2 major areas - San Pedro Sula and Copan. In San Pedro Sula, the second largest city in Honduras we visited local shelters. The first visit was to an orphanage where we met with boys and girls ranging from infants to teenagers. During our visit we gave out both soccer balls and One-World Futbols.
The second trip was to a shelter for kids with HIV. The shelter was located in a hard neighborhood with only dirt roads. At the shelter there were circa 60 kids - boys and girls off all ages. Like the orphanage we gave both types of balls and played soccer with the kids.
Also while in San Pedro Sula we donated soccer balls to a local soccer team for troubled youths.
After San Pedro Sula we made our way to Copan in Northern Honduras. While in Copan we met many street kids and handed out soccer balls. At one point we drew a crowd of about 15 kids and gave out over a dozen soccer balls. We played soccer with the kids for ages and it was just an amazing experience. To see the faces of the kids light up while playing soccer was just awesome. The kids were free to play and just have tons of fun.
