There are over 7 billion people living on our planet, and wearing a pair of shoes is a basic necessity. However, in many parts of the world, the reality is that many do not have shoes and it’s not uncommon for children to grow up in these areas without ever having had a pair of shoes at all.
Over 400 million children worldwide live in extreme poverty. Many of them don’t have adequate shoes.
Many children are often denied access to schools as it is a requirement to wear shoes.
Without shoes, serious health conditions can be absorbed through the feet from hookworm and threadworm. In addition, constant cuts and scrapes to the feet and ankles frequently become infected and many of these infections can lead to ulcers or worse. These injuries left untreated and can lead to serious infections, amputations and even death.
